MONTGOMERY, Ala., Jan. 27, 2026 – A Montgomery man has been charged with second-degree arson after confessing to starting a fire in a vacant residence on Plum Street late Monday night.
Montgomery Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire in the 1800 block of Plum Street at approximately 10:03 p.m. on Jan. 26. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a one-story vacant residential building with significant fire damage.
An on-call fire investigator was dispatched to the scene to assist with the investigation. During the inquiry, 35-year-old Jamie German was identified as a suspect. After being read his Miranda rights, German was interviewed and subsequently confessed to initiating the fire inside the house.
German has been charged with arson in the second degree, as defined under Alabama Code Section 13A-7-42. This statute states that a person commits second-degree arson if they intentionally damage a building by starting or maintaining a fire or causing an explosion.
The Montgomery Fire Rescue Department emphasizes the importance of community vigilance and urges residents to report any suspicious activities to local authorities promptly.
