Montgomery-June 24, 2022

Three new Little Libraries were unveiled today at Gibbs Village Community Center, Southlawn Elementary, and Parks Place Housing Community. Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012, based in Wisconsin. The vision is a Little Library in each community and a book for every reader. From Little Free Library’s website, “We believe all people are empowered when the opportunity to discover a personally relevant book to read is not limited by time, space, or privilege.”

The partnership between MPACT (Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career Technologies), Kelly Realty, the Sunrise Rotary Club, and the Montgomery Education Foundation has made three new Little Libraries in Montgomery a realtiy. Montgomery Education Foundation and Sunrise Rotary assisted with securing books. MPACT’s Assistant Principal, Rick Robinson, shared that the MPACT students built the book receptacles. Libraries are painted with a pop of red and white paint, mounted on sturdy posts. Jeremy Kelly, of Kelly Realty, emphasized the importance of relevant literature being put in the hands of children from the community. The Parks Place library was especially important to Kelly, since he lived at Parks Place as a baby. The principal of Southlawn Elementary was on-site for the unveiling of the Southlawn Little Library. Instrumental representatives of the Montgomery Housing Authority were in attendance at Parks Place Housing Community, Southlawn Elementary, and Gibbs Village Community Center. Sunrise Rotary members also came out to participate in the unveiling.
